Kami Parsa, MD
Oculoplastics & Reconstructive Surgery

dr kami parsaDr. Parsa is an Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgeon who specializes exclusively in Orbital Oncology & Orbital Reconstructive Surgery. After graduating with honors from the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Dr. Parsa completed a residency in ophthalmology at USC's prestigious Doheny Eye Institute. He then completed a two year sub-specialty fellowship in Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami 's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. This is a highly competitive fellowship with only 12 offered spots in the entire United States . At Bascom Palmer, Dr. Parsa was trained in what has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the number one program in the country for the past several years.

Dr. Parsa is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at USC's Department of Ophthalmology. For the past decade, he has been involved in many clinical and basic science research projects, and he has received numerous honors and awards for these research endeavors. Dr. Parsa has also published many articles, and he has been invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. His current research focus is in the development of customized 3-D implants for patients with major ocular and facial deformities.

Additionally, Dr. Parsa is involved in several humanitarian organizations. He is the President of Universal Children’s Fund which is a nonprofit organization committed to delivering surgical care and education to people in developing countries. He is an active volunteer surgeon for International Kids Fund and has participated in numerous reconstructive surgeries through this organization. One of these cases was recently featured in an hour-long special entitled A New Face for Marlie on Discovery Health Channel.

Ali Mahtabifard, MD
Thoracic & Cardiothoracic Surgery

Ali Mahtabifard, MD is an attending surgeon with the Cedars-Sinai Center for Chest Diseases.  Dr. Mahtabifard is an expert in minimally invasive surgery for lung cancer, emphysema, esophageal disorders and chest wall disorders.  He is board certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Mahtabifardʼs research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of Immunotherapy, Clinical Cancer Research, Molecular Therapy, Human Gene Therapy, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery Clinics.   He has also presented at the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Mahtabifard received his bachelorʼs degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his medical degree from New York Medical College.  He completed a general surgery internship at St. Vincentʼs Hospital and Medical Center of New York and then completed his general surgery residency at The Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University.  During residency, he also completed a two year research fellowship in thoracic oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Following residency he completed his cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of California at Davis and then has completed another fellowship in advanced and minimally invasive thoracic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

 

Ralph A. Massey, MD
Dermatologic Surgeon

Dr. Massey is a cosmetic and skin cancer surgeon. He graduated from Cambridge University and London University in England prior to completing his dermatology residency in the United States.

Dr. Massey went on to complete a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic and Cosmetic Surgery at Columbia University in New York.

Dr. Massey is an award-winning surgeon, winning the prestigious Theodore Tromovitch award from the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery for excellence in research in dermatologic surgery. As well as lecturing extensively, Dr. Massey has published numerous articles on dermatologic surgery in leading peer-reviewed medical journals.

For several years Dr. Massey taught dermatologic and cosmetic surgery at Columbia University. He has continued his commitment to teaching through UCLA were he is an Assistant Clinical Professor. He is also a fellow of American Academy of Dermatology, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology.

 

Rachel Gordon, MD
Head & Neck, Neuroradiology

dr rachel gordonRachael Gordon, M.D. graduated with honors from University of Colorado Medical School. While there, she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Following her diagnostic radiology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Gordon completed at two-year fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Gordon obtained her Certificate of Added Qualification in Neuroradiology from the American Board of Radiology and is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology. She has been practicing neuroradiology in Los Angeles for since 1997.

In addition to having expertise in all aspects of imaging the brain, spine and head/neck, Dr. Gordon’s interests include specialized imaging in the evaluation of the central nervous system including MR angiography and high-resolution imaging of the cranial nerves. She is also skilled in spine intervention, performing fluoroscopically-guided epidural injections, facet injections, and myelography.

Dr. Gordon is a member of the American Society of Neuroradiology, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North American and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Marcel Maya, MD
Diagnostic & Interventional Neuroradiology;
Director, Radiology Residency

dr marcel mayaMarcel Maya, MD is an Interventional Neuroradiologist at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he also directs the Radiology Residency Program. He specializes in performing endovascular procedures to treat a variety of conditions, including aneurysms, vascular malformations, and strokes. Dr. Maya is an expert in minimally invasive spinal procedures, including vertebral compression fracture treatment (vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty) and spine tumor ablation.

Dr. Maya has extensive research experience and has been published in numerous professional journals, including the American Journal of Roentgenology, Journal of Neurosurgery, Neuroimaging Clinics of North America, Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, and Neurology. He is currently researching cerebrospinal fluid leaks and spontaneous intracranial hypotension. He has also presented at various meetings including the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology and American Society of Neuroradiology.

Dr. Maya is board certified in Radiology and is fellowship trained in Neuroradiology. He is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and an active member of the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiolgy Radiology.

Before joining the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center, Dr. Maya was an attending radiologist at St. Vincent Medical Center and House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles. Prior to his move to the West Coast, he practiced in the Division of Neuroradiology at New York University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of radiology.

Dr. Maya received his medical degree from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. He completed his radiology training at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York and his Neuroradiology fellowship at New York University Medical Center, New York.

Avi Donitza, DMD
Maxillofacial Prosthodontics

dr avi donitzaDoctor Avi Donitza obtained his DMD degree from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1985. He maintained a private practice in Haifa, Israel for eight years and held a position as a clinical instructor in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In pursuit of further specialization, Dr. Donitza joined the Department of Prosthodontics at UCLA in 1993, and became involved in research at the “Center for Esthetic Dentistry”. He completed a residency in Prosthodontics in 1999 and a Maxillo-Facial Prosthodontics residency in 2001 at UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Donitza is actively involved in both patient care and educational endeavors. He is an avid speaker and presents at numerous meetings.

Dr. Donitza is a part time Adjunct Professor in Removable Prosthodontics at UCLA and maintains a private practice in Beverly Hills. His practice encompasses implant dentistry, Prosthodontics, aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry. He is an active member of several professional organizations including the American College of Prosthodontists. He is a vital part of the center and with his help we are able to improve the patients’ function, appearance and self esteem.
